what laptop for Beth

What Laptop Is Best for Beth

What laptop is right for Beth? Beth uses her notebook at a higher level than Aaron or Darren. If she uses it as as a portable entertainment center and

stores her music on it and has her favorite movies on the hard drive, she needs more than a net book or a low entry level laptop. Beth should be buying a laptop computer at the bare bones or what I call the best laptop for many people, an entry level computer.

To store her music and movies Beth needs a substantial hard drive, 360 GB or more.

An audio card and speakers or good earphones are required for Beth to get the best reproduction of her music. Some laptops now being sold are advertised as having upgraded sound capabilities. These feature upgraded sound cards and speakers. Some have internal sub-woofers. I haven't been impressed by the sound of these laptops. Other people say they are great, but I really don't think the sound is that good. When I travel and think I will want to listen to music (without ear phones), I pack a set of 2.1 speakers in my suitcase. They sound better than any internal laptop speakers I have heard. The compact portable speakers I've seen aren't as good as decent full size desktop speakers unless you go for the models that cost about as much as a cheap laptop. Discrete graphics will help the reproduction of her movies and improve the graphics on a 17 inch laptop display. The Intel Graphics integrated with the Intel core i3, i5 and newer i7 processors is probably good enough for Beth's needs as are the integrated graphics in most AMD powered laptops, but a low end discrete card would be better. The new AMD Llano processors are ideal for this other than the actual coding/decoding of the video.

You don't need the fastest processor for this level of use. Since we're looking at this machine as a portable entertainment center, the audio and video components are most important. Since we want it to be portable, we have to be concerned about the weight of the notebook and speakers, particularly if we are considering a 17 inch display.

Price also comes into play when deciding what laptop is right for Beth (or you). The upgraded sound now being sold generally comes with upgraded processors you really don't need.
