Best Mini Laptop ComputerThe best mini laptop computer will have the right level of hardware to do what you want it to. The besthardware available is one thing, the best for you is another. The best available hardware in a net book is easy right now. A mini laptop computer built on the Nvidia Ion platform with 2 GB Ram, a WXGA display and the Intel Atom N280 processor is the best available right now. The competition is the Intel Pine Trail platform with an Intel Atom N450 procesor.Whether this is what you want is another thing though. The only machines that seem to be available in the United States are 11.6 inch models. They start around $500 in price. They still don't have aninternal optical drive. At this price you can get a full size laptop with a faster Pentium Dual Core processor, although the GMA 4500MHD will be slower. For less money, you can get a ultra thin laptop with a single core Celeron processor. It will be the same size as the 11.6 inch net book. Again the processor will be faster and the graphics processor slower. Once you get to this size and price though, the question becomes "Why are you buying a netbook?" You don't get the portability of the original mini laptop computers or the performance of an ultra portable laptop that costs less. The sweet spot in mini laptops is still the 10 inch or smaller version with the Intel Motherboard. A solid state hard drive that is as big as you probably want, 128 GB or more is to expensive to really make sense. The models with wxga displaysare too expensive also. The models with svga displays, 1 GB of ram and 160 GB hard drives are the best buys. Which GMA is in them, the 500 or the 950 doesn't really matter. They have different weaknesses but are about a wash. Currently, the fastest Atom processor available in a net book is the N280. Just remember that The Atom processors labeled with an N are faster than the Zs and the higher number is faster. Net books are more fragile than other notebook computers. If you buy one, it is important to get a case that will protect it. That will cut down on the portability of the machine. The actual brand on the mini laptop computer doesn't matter much. As I have said elsewhere, all the laptops are made from the same parts in the same place. The best mini laptop is the one that feels best in your hands. Price can be a factor too.
