Buying A Laptop Computer for Aaron A Light Computer User

Aaron has choices to make when buying a laptop computer.

He uses his laptop computer about as little as possible. Other than the occasional movie, he doesn't do anything with his laptop that he couldn't do with an internet enabled cell phone.

If he really doesn't store his music on the laptop, Aaron is a prime candidate for a netbook or mini laptop. The screen size is larger than most portable DVD players, so you can watch movies on it, if you like.

There are some potential problems for buyers of net books though, particularly with the less expensive ones or even pricier ones running Ubuntu (a flavor of Linux) as the operating system.

Apple doesn't have a version of i-tunes for it. If you have an i-pod, you'll need a different player and everything will look different and loading the i-pod will be different. You need the different player if you have a mp3 player other than an i-pod too. Seems that it isn't unusual for users unfamiliar with Ubuntu to have issue with both i-pods and generic mp3 players.

On these same mini-laptops, Open Office is probably your best choice for word processing or spreadsheet applications. People have reported some printing problems.

What I've called the computers with the best laptop prices, a lower entry level laptop is a reasonable choice too. This type has the best laptop prices and will avoid the issue I mentioned about net books-- they run Windows. They are bigger than mini-laptops though, but they should be faster. They aren't as trendy as net books and you will pay $100 or more more for one as compared to a lower end net book. If you do store music on the computer, this, or an upper level minicomputer that might cost even more is what you need.

My bare bones laptop is a reasonable choice too. It will be $100 more than the lower entry laptop but will be faster still. I think this is a good choice for most people buying a notebook computer.
