Best Processor for Laptop Computers? Intel Core i Laptop Processors
If you listen to Intel, the best processor for laptop computers is one of their new core i processors. They claim they are the best laptop processor you can find in laptop computers on sale today. They're probably right.

The Core 2 Extreme processors were the fastest processors, so most people considered them to be the best processor for laptop computers. The letters you have seen before the numbers and their meanings are: - Q There are four cores combined in the processor.
- X Extreme. A top end high performance processor.
- T Power consumption -- Total design power (TDP) 30-39 watts
- P TDP 20-29 watts
- L TDP 12-19 watts
- U TDP 11.9 watts or less
- S small form factor
- N Network processor

Intel added new letters. Mobile Core i processors now will have an M in the name. Core i processors designed for embedded uses will have an E. This years Atom processors are the newer 32 mn. processors and you will find them in mini notebook computers. Intel has also changed what some of the letters mean when you look at the labeling of core i mobile processors. L and U no longer mean what they did. The "L" processors have a TDP of 25 Watts. The "U" processors have a TDP of 18 watts. It seems they are a level higher than they were. The "P" designation seems to have disappeared. The "L" seems to use the power the "P" did and the new "U" matches the old "L". The core i7 mobile chips are not all the same. The i7-940XM, 920XM, 840QM, 820QM, 740QM, and the 720QM are older style chips. They were announced last September and have actually appeared in computers that have been for sale. These chips use power above the old "T" level. If fastest is best, the 940XM is the best processor for laptop computers. That is what it is. There are several ways they differ from the 11 core i chips announced at the Consumer Electronics Show this year. The older chips - are 45 nm. thick

Best Processor for Laptop 2011
The newest chips, announced in January 2011, with additional models released in June 2011, are the "Sandy Bridge" processors. These newest Intel entries in the best processor for laptop computers contest are called second generation core i processors. They have an extra digit, a leading 2 in the number, and feature the graphics processor on the same die as the CPU. There is an additional change in the labeling of the core i processors, but not the Pentium or Celeron. The chips now have four digit numbers and the fourth digit has a meaning. As can be seen on the chart above, a final 9 (xxx9) shows a low power (old L, 25W) processor and a final 7 (xxx7) shows an ultra low power (old U 17W) processor. The 7 appears as the third digit in the Pentium models and has the same meaning. Additional processors with the letter e (indicating they are for embedded uses) were also released. The second generation Core i processors feature better on chip graphics and better speed. They are Intel's newest version of the best processor for laptop computers. These are all significantly faster than last year's equivalent models and as such, the best processor for laptop computers is the fastest of these. Whether the older chips or the newer models are the best processor for laptop computers is still to be seen.The newer core i chips are the first 32 nm. mobile chips. The smallest chips in 2009 year were 45 nm. No Intel chips had the graphics processor and the memory controller integrated into the same package as the cpu. Intel has taken one of the two mother board chip sets and added it to the cpu. This has several benefits. The TDP listed for the mobile processor includes several other items which consume power. The overall power consumption for the total components involved would put the cpu in or below the L or U designation, if only the power for the laptop cpu was measured. The on processor memory controller allows for faster and more efficient use of the system memory. An integrated memory controller allowed laptops AMD processors to remain somewhat competitive with Intel even though the processors are slower. As we said when discussing the 60nm. and 45 nm. processors as compared to the 90 nm. processors, they are naturally faster. With everything smaller, instructions get where they were sent quicker, and less heat is generated with the smaller distances for electric current to travel. In many ways they are the best processor for laptop computers. You can try to figure out what Intel is offering for yourself at Intel's web site. It is very difficult to track anything down there. They are fastest though and in that way the best processor for laptop computers.
