The Best Deal LaptopThe best deal on laptop computers is personal. Everyone's best deal laptop computer is different. We are going to find the best laptop to buy through one of what I guess they call configurators. I find these very useful when looking for the "best deal" laptop computers. When I choose a laptop to buy I generally know what laptop to buy as far as equipment level. I am looking for that laptop on sale, the best laptop to buy at that level. The processor is sort of a mid point. We are looking for an Intel Core 2 Duo processor that is a T8XXX, P7XXX, or P8XXX. They are relatively close in price and performance. The 9XXX's don't give the bang I want for my buck. WXGA is 1280 X 800 or 1366 X 766. The first upgrade is 1440 X 900. What is desirable as the graphics card depends on screen size and how adventurous you are. I'm a bit conservative now. I have a $1400 paper weight that makes me eligible to join in a class action suit based on the video card in it. I don't think I would go for anything other than one of the better video accelerators for a laptop with less than 14 inches. At 14 inches I'd definitely top out at a ATI Radeon Mobility 3650 or a Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT. I might go as far as ATI Radeon Mobility 3850 or a Nvidia GeForce 9700M GTS. I would want at least a 128 bit memory bus. In a 15 to 16 inch model I might try up to a ATI Radeon Mobility 4830 or a Nvidia GeForce GTX 160M If I was getting a 17 inch screen laptop I might consider a faster video card, but, unless you're really a gamer or a graphics artist, you don't need it.
