Notebook Processors: Intel or AMD?

When it comes to notebook processors, your choice of CPU comes down to Intel (Intel Corporation) or AMD (Advanced Microdevices, Inc.). Last time I looked, the 10 fastest processors were Intel.

It isn't that easy though.

The fastest laptop processors are costly. Unless you add other components, you will not take advantage of the added notebook cpu speed. Once you upgrade these components, you have a computer costing two or three times as much as you need to spend unless you have high end needs.

The Intel mobile processors you see in low priced computers at the direct selling sites like Dell or HP are not significantly faster than the AMD processors available. Some of them are actually slower. Until new laptop motherboards are fully implemented, the AMD driven machines have some advantages.

Discrete graphics (video cards), are almost always available with AMD processors. This helps the overall speed for some uses, and even without them, you won't notice the difference for most of the things you do.

If we're talking sub-notebooks, your processor choices change.
