MSI Laptop Computers
MSI laptop computers cover the full range of models. The company is best known for components such as motherboards, and more recently the MSI Wind netbook. MSI has been competing at the top end with their gaming laptops recently. They have been among the first manufacturers announcing gaming laptops with the fastest processors and graphics cards. Right now they are the only company I've seen offering the both the fastest ATI Radeon (HD 5870) and fastest NVidia GeForce (GTX 460M) mobile graphics card.
MSI notebook computers are gathered into series. The top end is the Gaming Series. Different models appear on the MSI Global website and the United States websites. It appears that the Global site shows the models currently announced or in production and the United States site shows models currently available on the market. MSI Gaming Series laptops range from the very very good to the mediocre. The best have the fastest intel 32 nm. core i7 processors and the video cards mentioned above and the worst have mid level AMD CPUs. All the models have graphics cards that will allow you to play all or almost all games. Screen sizes are 15 and 17 inches. All the models with anything other than core 2010 (core i) except one are listed as out of stock. The prices shown are $1000 and up. The F Series is another full size line. This line has Intel core i3 and i5 processors and AMD Phenom II and Athlon II processors. All models have discrete graphics and some feature Nvidia Optimus Technology which automatically switches between the intergrated and discrete graphics to extend battery life No prices are shown. The Entertainment Series is a set of models with 14 inch screens, Intel Core2 Duo processors, and ATI Mobility Radeon discrete graphics cards. The Classic Series is a group of 14 to 17 inch screen models with Intel Core2 Duo, Intel core i3 and i5, and AMD Athlon II processors. Some models have discrete graphics. No prices are shown. The Professional Series has core i5 processors and no prices listed. The X-Slim Series are MSI laptop computers of the ultra-portale variety. Screen sizes range from 13 inches to 15.6 inches. Processors range fron Intel Atom and AMD Athlon Neo X2 processors to Intel core i5 processors. Some have discrete graphics. No prices are shown. The Wind Netbook is the final series of MSI laptop computers. These range from the typical 10 inch models powered by Intel Atom processors to 12.1 inch models with Intel Core2 Duo or AMD Athlon Neo X2 Dual-Core processors for ultrathin Notebooks. No prices are given. There is a reason there aren't any prices for most of the computers on the MSI laptop computers website. They don't know what the price is. Unlike Apple, Lenovo, Sony, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Dell laptop computers, and HP laptop computers they do not do direct sales. They are like like Acer, Asus and Samsung in not having direct sales from their website. The MSI website is not very helpful. There is a general description of the different models, but there are disclaimers that you need to check with the retailer you are buying from to see what equipment is in the computer you are buying from them and to get a price. The website does not allow you to select a laptop model like you can on the Acer notebook computers website and be sent to a retailer where you can buy that model. The MSI laptop computer website will provide you with a listing of retailers that sell MSI laptop computers and you have to search them to find one that is selling what you want. Not a very good way to sell a computer.
