17 Inch Laptop
You can get a 17 inch laptop in the same sort of configurations as the 14 and 15 inch models. You don't get the same degree of portability from the larger laptop though. They generally start out 50% heavier than the smaller models. As you add components the weight will go up.
When you get to what I've called entry level laptops, many of these computers are marketed as "desktop replacement" computers, and these upper end laptops are marketed as "gaming computers." They are not really as good as a new desktop for either gaming or general use. You will get a bigger display, better graphics and a faster processor for the same money in the desktop. If you are prepared to accept the additional size and weight, there is nothing wrong with them as general laptops. Remember, you will pay a premium for the larger display, and probably want a better graphics card to take advantage of it. When you start adding these elements to the laptop you are adding to the price and the weight of the computer. The larger laptop will allow you to add components that run hotter and faster than what you can comfortably put into a 14 or 15 inch laptop. This is the reason that if you check any of the companies that specialize in high performance gaming laptops their top end machines are all 17 inch or larger laptop computers. They aren't as portable as you would like though. Laptops this size are take it there and use it there not take it with me and use it anywhere.
